Hello friends đ
This episode of The Incubator Podcast features a special lecture by Dr. Yuefang Huang, a distinguished neonatologist from Sun Yat-Sen University in China. Dr. Huang is a professor of pediatrics and vice-director of the Division of Neonatology at The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University. She is also an active leader in the Chinese Association of Neonatology and the Guangdong provincial neonatology organizations, contributing extensively to neonatal research and education.
In this lecture, titled âMultimodal Approach to Identify and Manage Circulatory Compromise in the Critically Ill Preterm Neonate,â Dr. Huang provides an in-depth discussion on the assessment and management of circulatory instability in preterm infants. She explores the use of advanced hemodynamic monitoring techniques, imaging modalities, and clinical parameters to improve early detection and intervention strategies for circulatory compromise. With a research focus on neonatal lung and brain injury, her insights offer valuable guidance on optimizing cardiovascular care in the most vulnerable newborns.
This lecture presents a comprehensive and practical approach to neonatal circulatory management, offering perspectives from both research and clinical practice. Join us for this informative session as Dr. Huang shares her expertise on improving outcomes for critically ill preterm infants.

Lecture Overview:
Background: The management of the hemodynamic status of critically ill preterm infants remains a significant challenge in the neonatal intensive care unit. A solid understanding of the mechanisms of action of cardiovascular medications along with efforts to develop comprehensive hemodynamic monitoring systems to improve the ability to accurately identify the underlying pathophysiology of cardiovascular compromise are thought to be of importance in the management of preterm neonates with shock.
Based on these current situations, the main content of my lecture includes two parts: recognition of hemodynamic compromise and circulatory support in the preterm infant. In section 1, it mainly deals with controversies in the diagnosis hypotension in the neonates, and multimodal approach to identify the cause of hemodynamic compromise (pathophysiologic situation). And in section 2, it introduces the mechanisms of action of cardiovascular medications and pathophysiology-based targeting interventions in the preterm. (volume, vasopressors/inotropes and hydrocortisone use)
